Spread the Word
Like those charming fools at Twitter, we were more concerned about getting this site developed than we were about our business model. We think this is a pretty excellent service we're giving away, but the reality is that free, ad-driven sites like this only stay free if lots of eyeballs pass over them. Unfortunately, just your two aren't going to be enough. If you want this site to be free (and we sure do), we need your help.
What do we want you to do? It's simple: spread the word about Hockey Pool Geek. We know, we know - you don't want to because this site gives you an edge in your fantasy hockey league and why would you want to share that?
We're asking nicely. If you don't want to do it, we can't make you. But if everybody takes that attitude, we're not going to be around for too long.
So please, if you like what we're doing here:
- Follow the Hockey Pool Geek on Twitter. If you like what this site does, tweet it to the world.
- Spread the word in the real world. If you've got a job in media, even better. Word of mouth is key.
- If you post on message boards, put a link to us in your signature. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. Something like:
Spread the word - http://www.hockeypoolgeek.com
is excellent. Maybe you want to dress it up a bit and mention why you like the site, maybe you want to use the extra-helpful keywords Fantasy Hockey. You know, something like:
Custom Fantasy Hockey Rankings - www.hockeypoolgeek.com
- Instead of visiting the site directly by typing in our URL, go via a search engine. Yes, you might have to click through a few pages of results to find the site, but the more our users do this, the higher we'll be ranked. A couple search terms that would help out: fantasy hockey, fantasy hockey rankings, hockey player rankings, fantasy hockey player rankings.
- Support our advertisers - if you're torn between buying something from Brand X or Brand Y and you see an ad for Brand X on this site, consider Brand X. Maybe even send them a letter or email to let them know you bought their product because you saw an ad on www.hockeypoolgeek.com?
- Any other creative way you can get more visitors to this site.
Don't like the site? That's fine too - we'd like your feedback so we can improve. If you do like the service we're giving away, we don't want to twist your arm; we just want you to spread the word.
If you absolutely refuse to spread the word because you want to keep these useful tools to yourself, let's be clear - you're costing us money and making it harder to operate. That's OK though, we understand the nature of providing free content, and we won't hold a grudge.
